In 1834, 38 East Coast ports between Wiscasset, Maine and Wilmington, Delaware were endeavoring to make money in the whaling industry. Most failed. This illustrated volume contains information on the whaling industry in Delaware, especially the Wilmington Whaling Company, as Wilmington and other Delaware river ports aspired to compete in the lucrative whaling business.  The effort lasted only a dozen years. Greenville, Delaware, Hagley Museum, 1974.
